Welcome to “Happenings in the PreK Classroom!” Every week, I’ll be sharing real moments from our classroom that show how learning comes to life through play, creativity, and hands-on experiences.
From literacy games to building with blocks and sensory exploration and a little bit of STEAM- these snapshots give you a peek into what your child might experience in a PreK setting. There is so much more happening behind the crayons, sand, and magnet letters… and I’m excited to share it with you!
Wondering how you own PreK child is developing in key areas like communication, problem-solving, and social skills?

Life Cycle of a Butterfly Continue: Week of May 12th, 2025
Butterflies Away! 🦋

This week our little scientists completed their journey from caterpillar to butterfly. We observed every stage, counted the days in each chrysalis, and even made “guess-timates” about when our new friends would finally emerge. The big moment arrived—wings dried, and we released them to the world!

▶️ Watch the short release video right here on our Happenings page. Want to try this at home? Click the word caterpillar to grab your own Butterfly Life-Cycle Kit and start the adventure with your child.
Finally, flutter over to our newest blog post, “Teaching Young Pre-K Kids Life Science—Plant & Butterfly Life Cycles,” for parent tips and easy activities to keep the learning growing! 💛
Life Cycle of Butterfly!! Week of April 28th, 2025
This week, we wrapped up our butterfly life cycle exploration—and our learners had so much to say! In this video, we use ordinal number words to describe each stage: first, second, third, and fourth.
She’s connecting observation to vocabulary, sequencing, and real understanding. This is joyful learning in motion!

STEAM in the Classroom: Week of March 24
This week we explored hands-on learning with Beebots and LEGO STEAM Park! Our learners used early math, technology, and teamwork while building, creating, and problem-solving through play.
From coding robots to constructing a theme park with LEGO bricks, our PreK class practiced real-world thinking in a playful, joyful way. This is how we bring STEAM to life—where early learners become confident thinkers, builders, and friends.

Alphabet Bingo
Students practiced identifying letters and matching sounds in a fun, turn-taking game.
Writing Your Name
The PreK learner is building confidence, one letter at a time. First, she used magnetic letters to build her name, then carefully copied each letter on the whiteboard.
This isn’t just handwriting practice- it’s name recognition, fine motor development, and a BIG Boost of confidence.

Magnetic Letter Name Building
Students used dry erase marker to write the letter in their names-boosting both pre-writing skills and self-esteem.

Literacy Learning
Little hands at work—selecting letters to build big literacy skills!
Alphabet Bingo Video
Alphabet Bingo is more than a game- it’s fun, engaging way to build letter recognition and beginning sounds.
You’ll hear me asking, “What letter is this?” and “What sound does it make?”- because every question opens the door to confident learning.

Beginning Sound Exploration
As each letter is called, students practice matching sound to visuals- foundational phonics in actions.
